New York. May 2012. The Gabarron Foundation will be hosting its children’s art exhibition on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 6:00 in the evening, showcasing the artwork of all the winners and Semi-Finalists of The Foundation’s 34th annual Children’s International Art Contest. The theme for the 2011 Contest was “Celebrate the Forests”, which referenced the resolution by the U.N. General Assembly that declared 2011 the International Year of the Forests. This initiative was created in order to raise awareness of sustainable measures, conservation and the development of all types of forests. Those children who participated followed this theme, producing artwork that illustrated their own vision of the forests. Nearly 2,000 drawings, paintings, and collages from 50 countries were entered, making this contest an incredible success..

The art contest was comprised of the following categories: Child and Youth and Iberia Child and Iberia Youth, ages 5 to 14. Mary DuPont, of the United States, and Yu Chen Lan, from China, were declared the winners of the Child and Youth categories of the 34th annual International Children’s Art Contest of the Queen Sofia Children’s Art Museum (QSCAM) of The Gabarron Foundation. The Gabarron Foundation was established in Spain in 1992, inspired by the ideals of its founder, the Spanish artist Cristóbal Gabarrón: to educate and teach while at the same time defend, support, and disseminate Culture in its most varied forms. The Foundation’s growth over the past 20 years has been guided by its mission to “raise awareness through the arts.” The Gabarron Foundation organizes and presents annual programs through its centers and museums in Spain and the United States. The Carriage House Center for the Arts is The Gabarron Foundation’s New York headquarters. Since 2002 the Carriage House has advanced as a platform for the cross-fertilization of Hispanic and Latin American cultures in the United States. The International Awards program was created in 2002 to coincide with The Foundation’s 10th Anniversary, and it has since become an annual event of global proportion, broadcast live worldwide. The Awards recognizes some of the greatest luminaries of our time, like José Mercé, whose work and career trajectories are committed to the defense of those values that constitute the essential principles of The Gabarron Foundation itself.
