Miguel Ángel Lozano
(1994, Jumilla, Murcia) is a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Murcia, having subsequently made a Postgraduate in Production and Artistic Management. He has won the Anuaria-Pro Award, the best final project, Barcelona (2016) and the IGDEA AWARD, in the IGDEA Award-Pro category, Barcelona (2018), among others.
Among the individual
carried out include: Vinumonastrell, Espacio de Arte Patico Art Center, Murcia (2015); Oxidation, Jerónimo Molina Archaeological Museum, Jumilla (2017). Group exhibitions include: Docile bodies - captive behavior, Puertas de Castilla Center, Murcia (2017) and Tabula Pictos, Centro Párraga, Murcia (2017).
The winery is the ancestral point of the conservation and elaboration of the wine, witness of the importance that had in the past and in the actuality the upbringing of some broths, of vaulted construction realized in the 18th century and located in the subsoil of the house with several Dozens of large jars inserted into the ground. The “Oxidations” installation realized by Miguel Ángel Lozano has a successful lighting, composed of some shirts hanging at different heights that have been ceded by local inhabitants, people who change, transform and work the landscape of the area. The garments have been dyed with the pigments coming from the native Monastrell grape wine of the different Protected Designation of Origin of the Region of Murcia and have created various oxidations and aging, are the traces and memory of the product of the land. To know the work is to approach the world of Lozano, to touch and feel the essence of the landscape. When going down to the subsoil, the sensation you receive is like opening a bottle of wine, the visitor feels flooded by the aroma, it is a remarkable and intense sensation, aroma that as you wander through space it opens up, expanding and being more expressive. The essence produced by the tinctures of wine and tannins is the soundtrack, and the shirts the scores of the composition that makes us reflect on the work.
Being a creator or an artist is a way of engaging and that's what Lozano does, his work is about the memory, identity and transcendence of the wine culture in the landscape. His work challenges us and raises questions in a visual and creative way, inviting us to let ourselves be carried away by the senses in order to perceive and think. The installation is the result of the search for elements of its real and nearby world, it is the reality that extends from its Jumilla, where it lives, with its vineyards and the fields that it walks often. The shirts evoke the need to remember rural areas, humility in agricultural work and the respectful relationship of the human being with nature and landscape. The dyes that give garnet and gray colors in the fabrics, are the essence of the natural that is determined by the abstract compositions that conform and refer to the origin of life, it is one of the pantones of our earth, colors of the regions and territories of wines that bring delicacy and strength.
Lozano makes us feel part of the terroir and the landscape, his artistic proposal translates us to the symbolism of wine, Mediterranean cultural identity; evocation of the atavistic link that exists between wine and culture through art. Lozano captures the real, the essence of our land, the installation produces the effect of interpellating the thoughts and eliciting that millenary wisdom where the secrets of the jars that once stored the precious liquid emerge, managing to create an atmosphere of aromas and sensations that provoke emotions in the viewer of moments of our existence, loaded with a sense deeply rooted in the individual and collective unconscious, the work is a monument dedicated to the people who work the land, it is its particular altar, invites us to activate the memory with the smells and colors for the installation space, where it manages to generate different tensions and personal experiences.
The olfactory sensation of the work deserves our attention, beyond the visual, tactile and sonorous, elements more usual in contemporary art. The aromas and essences that we find in the installation is a game of "visibility and invisibility", between the identification of the aromas. It's about our history and the present, the history of the human being, the passage of time, work, absence, presence.
