FCG International Scenic Arts Award 2010: FERNANDO TRUEBA
“For being one of the motors and innovators of Comedy in the Spanish Film also with international recognition, which led him to win an Oscar in 1994 with “Belle Époque”. The Jury met in Valladolid, June 18, 2010 under its jury President Mrs. Mercedes Cantalapiedra Álvarez, Jury President. The jury was composed of Mrs. Mercedes Cantalapiedra Álvarez, 3rd Deputy Mayor of the City of Valladolid and Cultural, Comerce and Tourism Comissioner -acting as president of the jury; Mr. Germán Camarero Muñoz, Head of EFE Press Association in Castilla y León;Mr. José Luis Martín Alonso, Head of ABC Newspaper in Castilla y León and Mr. Juan Vidal Doce, Director of TVE Broadcast State Centers.
Biography
Fernando Trueba. Madrid, 1955. Spanish Film Director He studied at the Faculty of Educational Sciences; then started as a film critic for the newspaper El Pais and La Guia del Ocio. He became known with his first film, called Opera prima (1980). In 1985 he rose to fame with the comedy Se infiel y no mires con quien, starring in among others, Ana Belén, Carmen Maura and Antonio Resines. In 1988 he was President of the Spanish Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which annually awards the Goya. In 1992 his film Belle Epoque wins nine Goya Awards, Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress (Ariadna Gil). In 1993 the same film won the Award for Best Foreign Language Film from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of United States. In 1994 he directed Two Much starring Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith. He is the author of the book Diccionario del Cine (1997). And in 1998 he directed La Niña De Tus Ojos, with Penelope Cruz; the film won seven Goya, including the Goya for Best Film.
