OPENING ANTAGONIA MATERICA, CRISTOBAL GABARRON
The exhibition, which will be on view until September 29 at the Regional Museum of Modern Art (MURAM) and ast the Museum of the Roman Theatre of Cartagena, was presented yesterday, April 25, 2013, by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, the artist, and the curator of the exhibition, Julio Cesar García.
The opening was also attended by the Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero, and the directors of both museums, Elena Ruiz and Natalia Grau.
Antagonia Materica is the first exhibition of the artist made in Cartagena and one of the most important artistic events in the region. The exhibition is made by works, usually very large, which present the dialectic between matter and form and the presence or absence of both.
The group of paintings and sculptures laid out in the different rooms illustrate Cristóbal Gabarrón’s constant experimenting with materials and forms. The artist uses materials such as clay, fibreglass or iron in his sculptures, which he mixes together; those that he makes co exist in harmony in the room: clay, used by man since distant times, iron, the basic support and the “soul” of his pieces of work, and fibreglass, a contemporary material co-exist in the same space, creating a gradual and evolutionary journey.
The exhibition will be on view until Septembre, 29, 2013.
