The painter and sculptor Gabarron opens the show tomorrow, Saturday, September 20 to exhibit JISP public sculpture that takes place in Shanghai Jing'an Sculpture Park. This exhibition is the first of a series of sample programs for Gabarron's work in Asia.
On October 15, the "Las Torres de la Alhambra" ("Alhambra's Towers") series will open in Hong Kong and will leave for Singapore after its closure.
The enigmatic sculptures of Christopher Columbus have been selected by the JISP committee to form part of the 3rd international exhibition organized in the Sculpture Park in Shanghai. The works will be exhibited from September 20 to November 20, 2014.
Jing'an Sculpture Park covers an area of 66,000 m2 in the center of Shanghai, and has since become the launch of JISP in a cultural destination for residents and visitors, and an internationally recognized center for public art and a sign of distinction for Shanghai.
Among the artists participating in this biennial-JISP 2014, are Gabarron, Ronald A. Westerhuis, Ju Ming, Alex Rinsler, Nadim Karam, Verjinia Markarova, Yan Shilin, Niki de Saint Phalle, Seon Ghi Bahk, Luyan Wang, Wim Delvoye, Yaxin Wang, Xia Yunfei, and curator Huang Du among other many and important individuals.
The sculptural series "Los Silencios de Colon" ("The Silences of Columbus") pays tribute to the silences and mysteries around the figure of the explorer and navigator Christopher Columbus. It is about ten works full of symbolism, in order to generate concern in the viewer.
It was created by Gabarron in 2006 and has since traveled the world, showing in landmarks such as the Paseo del Prado in Madrid, the Central Park and Broadway of New York or the now Shanghai Sculpture Park, recently passing the Volden Park in Amsterdam within international shows ARTZUID, IVAM and the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia, Valladolid Campo Grande, the historic center of Cáceres, Santiago de Compostela, Estoril, Sevilla, Gdansk in Poland or Hasselt, and Alden Biesen in Belgium among others.
